Amazing Fridays Mudslide with a Banana Twist
Discover this awesome Fridays Mudslide recipe that everyone will love. Serve this at your next party for a scrumptious frozen dessert. You can serve this after a light meal, or you can wait just a bit, as it is deliciously filling.
While the classic Mudslide is often served with crushed ice, the addition of ice creams in the Friday’s version makes this Mudslide more of a dessert than a cocktail. The combination of vanilla ice cream, chocolate ice cream and banana makes this version so scrumptious that even those folks that don’t usually imbibe in coffee-flavored drinks will walk away with a satisfied smile.
Here is a recipe for two frozen banana Fridays delights. Feel free to double if you want more substantial servings.
- 1 ½ cups ice cubes
- 1 ½ oz vodka
- 1 ½ oz coffee Liqueur
- 1 ½ oz Irish Crème Liqueur
- 1 1/2 oz cream
- 1 banana
- 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
- 2 scoops chocolate ice cream
Put the ice in a blender and crush. When the ice is finely crushed, add all of the rest of the ingredients and blend for about a minute on high speed. Pour into wide-mouthed glasses. You can get creative with your toppings, adding shaved or grated chocolate, chocolate sauce or whipped cream.
For the best tasting Fridays Mudslide, you should pay attention to each of the ingredients. We’ll go through them one by one.
Starting with ice. Be sure it is fresh and not “freezer-flavored”.
Vodka was originally made in Russia and Poland from potatoes, but can be distilled from any grain or fruit or vegetable. The distilling and filtering process leaves it substantially colorless and tasteless. Most American vodkas are made from grains such as barley, corn or wheat.
The subtleties between vodkas are more important when drunk as a shot, as is more common in Russia. For our ice cream drink, find something reasonable. A decent American vodka like Skyy® is more than sufficient.
Kahlua is the most popular of the coffee liqueurs, and has been made in Mexico for over sixty years. You could also try Tia Maria, which is a rum-based coffee-flavored liqueur from the Green Mountains of Jamaica.
Bailey®’s is the original Irish Crème liqueur, and is always a good choice. Others, such as Carolans, are good too, with slightly varying flavors. You might even consider a “light” version, although don’t try to make this a low-calorie drink.
Cream is NOT the same as milk. Use cream. A local, organic cream is the best choice. Cream is also NOT the same as half-and-half. Use cream. Again, don’t try to make this a low-calorie drink.
Bananas… you can use them out of the freezer if you like.
Ice cream quality varies tremendously. Buy ice cream made with just a few, simple ingredients, using sugar not corn syrup.
It’s Friday! Let the party begin! Enjoy appetizers with your friends, and save room for dessert! You will love this delicious banana Fridays Mudslide to help you slide into the weekend.
